Snooker - A Game of Strategy, Precision, and Patience

Introduction

Snooker is a cue sport played on a large rectangular table covered with green baize and pockets in each corner and in the middle of the long sides. It is a game of accuracy, mental strategy, and fine control, popular across the UK, parts of Asia, and gaining global recognition.

Known for its slow-paced and highly tactical gameplay, snooker requires not just talent but focus, foresight, and finesse. Players compete to pot balls in a specific sequence to accumulate the highest score in a frame.

How the Games is Played

Snooker is played between two players (or teams), using a cue and 22 balls:

  • 15 red balls (1 point each)

  • 6 colored balls (yellow-2, green-3, brown-4, blue-5, pink-6, black-7)

  • 1 white cue ball

Basic Gameplay:
  1. Players must first pot a red ball, followed by a color ball.

  2. After a color is potted, it is re-spotted, and the player must attempt another red.

  3. This red-color sequence continues until all reds are gone.

  4. Then, the colors are potted in order of their point value (yellow to black).

  5. The player with the most points wins the frame; matches consist of multiple frames.

Key Rules & Scoring

  • Fouls (e.g., missing a shot, potting the wrong ball) give penalty points to the opponent.

  • A break is the number of points scored in a single turn. A “century break” (100+) is a major achievement.

  • Maximum break is 147 — potting all 15 reds with 15 blacks, followed by all colors.

Snooker has some prestigious events and an elite set of players:

  • UK Championship – One of the Triple Crown events.

  • The Masters – An elite invitational tournament with top-ranked players.

About The App

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
