Weightlifting -The Sport of Strength, Technique, and Power

Introduction

Weightlifting is a dynamic Olympic sport that tests an athlete’s explosive power, precision, and mental discipline. It involves lifting a loaded barbell from the ground to overhead in a display of raw strength and refined technique. Far beyond just building muscle, weightlifting demands flexibility, balance, timing, and intense focus.

It’s a sport open to all ages and body types, and has become increasingly popular through CrossFit, powerlifting gyms, and youth development programs worldwide.

How the Sport Is Played

Olympic weightlifting consists of two main lifts:

  1. Snatch – A single, fluid motion where the barbell is lifted from the ground to overhead in one movement.

  2. Clean and Jerk – A two-part lift:

    • Clean: Bringing the bar from the ground to the shoulders.

    • Jerk: Explosively driving the bar overhead from the shoulders.

Each athlete has three attempts per lift, and the best successful lift in each is added together for a total score.

Key Rules & Weight Categories

  • Athletes compete in different weight classes, ensuring fair competition among lifters of similar body mass.

  • A valid lift must follow strict technical standards judged by three officials.

  • Lifts must be controlled and completed with arms locked and feet in line.

  • The lifter must wait for the judge’s signal before lowering the barbell.

About The App

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
